Orville Babcock was a Union officer who became confidante and private secretary to President Ulysses S. Grant. Babcock delivered to Robert E. Lee a demand from General Grant for unconditional surrender. Babcock is also known for supervising construction of many important buildings in Washington, D.C. Orville Babcock autograph images are highly prized by American Civil War buffs.
